The first thing that got me at RADBAR was not the drink menu. It was the TVs.

One had skate videos going. Another had Pokémon on. The walls were busy with art and memorabilia, the kind of visual clutter that actually makes a room feel lived in instead of decorated by committee. Then I noticed the pinball machines tucked away, including Terminator and Pulp Fiction when we stopped in, and thought, alright, this place knows what it is.

RADBAR sits in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District, where a bar can be a little weird without making a whole personality crisis out of it. The neighborhood already has the murals, galleries, coffee, restaurants, Lyric on the Plaza, and the steady foot traffic of people wandering NW 16th Street with no urgent plan. RADBAR fits that rhythm. It works as dinner, drinks, a patio stop, a pre-show hangout, or the place you end up after saying, “Let’s just walk around the Plaza for a minute.”

We stopped in after spending the day around the Plaza District, and the order started exactly how a table order at a bar should start, with something irresponsible and shareable.

The Rad Fries are seasoned crinkle fries piled with jack and cheddar cheese, sautéed onions, bacon bits, pickle ranch, and Rad Sauce. That is a lot of words for fries, but the pile made sense when it landed. They are built for a group, or for two people pretending they are not about to finish the whole thing.

I ordered the Rad Wings, tossed in Rad Sauce and served with more of those seasoned crinkle fries. The wings had the right bar-food logic to them: crispy enough to hold up, sauced enough to make you reach for a napkin, and not so fussy that they forgot they were wings.

Caila ordered the Gochujang Beef Quesadilla, and that was the surprise of the visit. It comes with slow-roasted shredded beef, mozzarella, provolone, and sweet-spicy gochujang sauce, plus house-made tortilla chips and gochujang ranch on the side. A quesadilla can be a lazy menu item in the wrong hands. This one felt like someone actually wanted it to be there.

The patio is a big part of the appeal, especially on an Oklahoma evening when the weather is behaving for once. Inside, it has enough going on that you can settle in with friends without staring at each other like you are in a waiting room. Outside, it gives you room to stretch out before or after walking the Plaza.

RADBAR also makes sense because of where it is. The Plaza District is one of OKC’s easiest neighborhoods for making a night out without overplanning. You can eat, grab drinks, look at murals, stop into shops, catch live entertainment, or show up during LIVE! on the Plaza, the district’s monthly art walk. RADBAR is not trying to pull you away from the neighborhood. It feels like one more piece of it.

That may be the best thing about the place. It does not take itself too seriously, but the food menu is more serious than the goofy retro-bar mood lets on. You can go there because you want cocktails and pinball. You can go because you need late-night food. You can go because your friends are indecisive and the Plaza District gives everyone a way out.

I went in expecting a cool-looking bar. I left thinking about the fries, the gochujang quesadilla, and the fact that Pokémon on a bar TV is a better hospitality decision than most people are willing to admit.
