Eggceptional Cafe Is a Perfect OKC Breakfast Stop for Mickey Mouse-Style Pancakes

Eggceptional Cafe in Oklahoma City is a breakfast and lunch cafe on Northwest Expressway with pancakes, kids meals, chicken fried steak, coffee, omelettes, and breakfast bowls.

The plate that sold me on Eggceptional Cafe landed in front of my son: blueberry Mickey Mouse-style pancakes with whipped cream, plus eggs and bacon on the side.

That is a strong argument for a family breakfast spot.

Eggceptional Cafe is on Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City, at 6210 NW Expressway. I have lived in OKC a long time and somehow had not really clocked it before, which is easy to do on Northwest Expressway. That stretch has a way of turning into autopilot, especially if you are just trying to get from one errand to the next without making eye contact with traffic.

But this place is worth noticing.

Inside, it was clean, bright, and staffed like somebody knew the breakfast rush was coming. Not one person doing laps around the dining room while everyone silently hopes for coffee refills. There were plenty of people moving, checking tables, and keeping the meal easy.

That matters when you have a kid at breakfast. A slow, chaotic morning can turn pancakes into a hostage negotiation pretty fast.

What We Ordered

My son got the kids pancake plate, and it came out as blueberry Mickey Mouse-style pancakes with whipped cream. The fun part was obvious, but I liked that the plate also came with eggs and bacon. It still felt like a kid breakfast, just not one built entirely out of sugar and parental surrender.

The pancakes were the best part of the table for me. Soft, warm, and exactly the kind of thing you hope a breakfast cafe gets right.

My wife ordered the chicken fried steak, because some Oklahoma breakfast decisions do not need a committee. It looked like a proper morning plate, the kind you order when you are not pretending you came in for something light.

I had coffee, and it was good. That sounds plain, but breakfast cafes do not get to treat coffee like an afterthought. If the coffee is weak, the whole room feels suspicious. This cup did its job.

There was also a plate that looked like pigs in a blanket, basically sausage wrapped in pancakes. That is breakfast engineering I can respect. Simple, filling, and almost certainly designed by someone who understands that syrup belongs in more places than people admit.

What Stood Out

Eggceptional Cafe feels more practical than flashy. It is not trying to be the loudest brunch room in Oklahoma City. It feels like a breakfast and lunch cafe built around the stuff people actually order: pancakes, eggs, omelettes, breakfast bowls, coffee, chicken fried steak, burgers, sandwiches, and kids meals.

There was also a cute little cantina-style setup near the staff area that gave the room some personality. Not a huge thing, but I notice when a place has a detail that feels built-in instead of pulled from the standard restaurant supply playbook.

The service was the bigger deal. Attentive, quick, and present without hovering. For a family breakfast, that is the sweet spot. You want coffee handled, food moving, and enough breathing room that the morning still feels like a morning.

Eggceptional Cafe has been around longer than I realized. It appeared in Oklahoma Gazette’s 2022 Best of OKC Food & Drink listings under Best New Restaurant to Open Since 8/1/21, so it is not brand new. It was just new to me, which is a more honest and very Oklahoma City kind of discovery.

I would put this one in the easy morning category. Good for families. Good for pancakes. Good if one person wants something sweet and another person wants chicken fried steak and coffee. That is a useful kind of place to have on Northwest Expressway.
