Hobby’s Hoagies sits on Walker Avenue in that useful stretch of Downtown OKC where lunch matters. You’re close to the Civic Center, Bicentennial Park, the Arts District, and enough office traffic that a sandwich shop has to know what it is doing.
Hobby’s does.
This is not a glossy downtown concept trying to make a hoagie sound complicated. Hobby’s Hoagies is a family-owned Oklahoma sandwich shop with East Coast roots, serving hoagies, Philly-style cheesesteaks, deli sandwiches, stromboli, wings, salads, desserts, and New York-style pizza. The original shop opened in Edmond in 1991, and the Downtown OKC location followed in 2009 at 325 N Walker Ave.

The part that matters most is the bread.

The menu leans hard on homemade Italian rolls, which is exactly where a hoagie shop ought to put its effort. You can pile on meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, oil, seasoning, and peppers all day, but if the roll gives up halfway through lunch, the whole operation falls apart. Hobby’s has built its reputation around those rolls, along with hot cherry peppers brought in from Delaware.

That detail tells you a lot. This is Oklahoma, where we can turn almost anything into a ranch-dipping situation, but Hobby’s keeps one foot planted back east. The sandwiches read like somebody missed a particular kind of lunch and decided to make it here instead.

The Special Italian is one of the obvious orders, with that classic cold hoagie build of meats, cheese, vegetables, oil, and seasoning. The Philly-style sandwiches are another big part of the draw, with ribeye steak, chicken breast, or hamburger options depending on what kind of sandwich mood you’re in. There are also hot Italian-style subs, including meatball and sausage, plus deli standards like a Reuben, pastrami on grilled rye, BLT, and grilled cheese.

Pizza is on the sign too, and Hobby’s serves New York-style pies with homemade dough and sauce. The menu includes specialty pizzas like Philly Cheesesteak, Supreme, BBQ Chicken, Chicken Alfredo, Meat Lovers, and Veggie. There’s even a gluten-free crust option for 10-inch pizzas.
Still, this place feels most clearly like a sandwich stop. Pizza may get you in the door, especially if you’re feeding a group, but the hoagies and cheesesteaks seem to be the center of gravity.
What I like about Hobby’s downtown is how practical it is. It’s a lunch place in the old-fashioned sense, not because it looks old, but because it solves a real downtown problem. You need something filling. You may be between meetings, jury duty, a show at the Civic Center, or a walk through the Oklahoma City Museum of Art area. You want a sandwich that tastes like someone thought about the roll before they thought about the branding.
That’s the kind of place Hobby’s is.
It also has enough range that a group can make it work without turning lunch into a committee hearing. One person can get a cheesesteak, another can get a cold Italian, somebody else can go Reuben, and the pizza person does not have to feel abandoned. For catering, Hobby’s also offers party subs, including those big 6-foot sandwich situations that only make sense when somebody has accepted they are feeding a crowd.
The Downtown OKC location closes earlier than a lot of people might expect, so treat it like a daytime stop. It is open through lunch and into the afternoon most days, with Saturday hours and Sunday off.
That feels about right. Hobby’s Hoagies is not trying to be a late-night downtown scene. It is trying to be the place where the bread is right, the peppers have some bite, and a downtown lunch still feels like lunch.
