One of my favorite small rituals in a new town is finding the local comic book store. Not because I need more reasons to bring paper home, although that is usually what happens, but because every shop has its own personality. Some lean hard into collectibles. Some are really game stores with a comic rack. Some feel like somebody’s long boxes got organized by accident.
Legendary Comics in Stillwater felt like a real comic shop.

I stopped in during a family trip to Stillwater with my parents, which made the whole thing feel a little more layered than a normal quick browse. Both of my parents went to Oklahoma State University, and they met while they were students there, so the day was partly a walk through their old version of town. We wandered around campus, ate at the original Hideaway Pizza, and listened to stories about Stillwater when they were in college.
At some point I asked if the comic shop they remembered was still around. It wasn’t. That one had closed years ago.
But Stillwater still has Legendary Comics.
The shop sits on Perkins Road and shares its space with Knight Arms Game Store, which is a useful little two-for-one if your interests overlap even slightly. One side is comics. The other side is tabletop games, trading cards, miniatures, dice, paints, and the kind of hobby supplies that can quietly eat an afternoon if you let them.
I went in for the comics, and that is where Legendary stood out.
A shop that actually makes browsing easy
The first thing I noticed was the organization. That sounds boring until you have spent time in enough comic stores where browsing feels like archaeology.
Legendary Comics had clearly marked sections for new releases, including Marvel, DC, and independent publishers. The aisles were wide enough to move through without doing the sideways comic-shop shuffle. You could actually take your time flipping through books without feeling like you were blocking the whole store.
That matters. A good comic shop should invite wandering, not make you feel like you need a map and a tetanus shot.
They did have collectibles, toys, and related items, but the focus still felt comic-first. New issues were easy to find. Back issue browsing looked approachable. The store had that clean, sorted feeling that tells you somebody is paying attention.
My favorite part was the wall books.
There is always a little suspense in working your way down a wall of key issues. You scan the covers, slow down when something familiar catches your eye, then start doing the quiet collector math in your head. I do not need every wall book I stop to look at, but I do enjoy pretending I am making responsible decisions.
What I left with
I ended up buying the first issue of *Dungeon Crawler Carl*.
I had heard several people recommend the series, and at first glance I thought it might be something my son would enjoy. Then I got about two pages in and realized, no, that was not the lane we were in.
So I guess I’ll have to read it myself. Tragic.
That little mistake is also part of why I like stops like this. You go in thinking you are just checking the place out, then you leave with something you would not have ordered online because it caught your eye in the room.
Legendary Comics is that kind of place.
Pair it with Knight Arms Game Store
The bonus is Knight Arms Game Store being right there with it. If you are traveling with someone who cares more about tabletop games than comic books, this setup makes the stop easier to sell. If you like both, even worse for your schedule.
Between the new comics, wall books, back issue hunting, trading cards, miniatures, and hobby supplies, it is easy to spend an hour or two in the building without really trying.
For me, the best part was how naturally it fit into a Stillwater day. We had OSU campus memories, Hideaway Pizza, family stories, and then a comic shop that was not trying to be everything at once. It knew what it was doing.
If you are looking for a comic book store in Stillwater, Oklahoma, especially near Oklahoma State, Legendary Comics is worth putting on the list. Go for the new releases and wall books. Leave a little time for Knight Arms next door.
